Welcome to the Winter 2022 edition of the Political Risk Index, produced in collaboration with Oxford Analytica. We have gathered contributions from across the world to support clients in their management of political risk and bring attention to new trends in global politics.

I am delighted to introduce you to this edition of the index, my first as leader of the Global Financial Solutions team. As I pondered over my message for this edition, I reflected upon how much geopolitical turmoil we have seen in recent times and moreover, how hard this makes life for clients operating in global economies.

While many commentators have noted changes in the world order and increasing Eastern influence in Africa, our latest index suggests that the dominant trend is “dealignment” – emerging market countries are increasingly seeking advantage by playing the superpowers off against each other.
