Autumn 2019
Welcome to the Political Risk Index for Autumn 2019, produced in partnership with Oxford Analytica. The expert contributors to this publication include political and economic analysts based at universities and research institutes around the world, bringing you up-to-date, relevant and meticulously researched information on some of the most vulnerable territories to help you more effectively manage your political risk.
As we approach the end of 2019, we note that political risk continues to rise and there is an expectation that it will continue to rise in 2020 as we see countries with increasing risk scores again outnumber those with falling risk scores.
Political and economic protests are growing across the globe, but Algeria, China and Russia share top place in this category. Algeria has remained at a constant risk of escalation as protests continue. The Chinese score went up due to the continuing situation in Hong Kong and in Russia due to the protests related to local elections in Moscow.
Among countries with falling scores in the political violence category, Indonesia and Venezuela are down albeit from high scores as tensions fall. However, Tanzania and Egypt are down as the opportunities for expressing opposition are largely reduced through the use of government security forces.
We hope you find this Index informative and useful. We look forward to discussing what these insights mean for your organization.
Yours Sincerely,
Paul L. Davidson
